
In 1984 Julia Martin was born.
Some things happened after that.
Some were good things! But most were bad things.Post Traumatic Stress Disorder things.
While these events colour her work, a dark, dark colour, Julia herself remains neutral, like her wardrobe. And shredded wheat.As a child, Julia was prompted to draw a picture of her best friend. Years later she discovered a crude, sparkle pen rendering of her grandmother’s wood-framed Electrohome television labelled
“My Best Friend.”
To date this is Julia’s healthiest, and most enduring relationship.
Julia holds a BFA from Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts. Though her attendance was terrible, she loved the program and faculty. She did not love leaving her apartment.
Julia is working on her fine art practice in the safety of her room. Her books can be found at Art Metropole, in Toronto. She was recently announced as one of the winners of The Magenta Foundation’s Flash Forward 2011.
